"Perfection is the Enemy of Progress."
have you ever tried striving for 'excellence' instead...?
Are you one of those people who is always trying to nail that perfect landing, only to end up face-planting in the process??
It's time to wake up and smell the coffee (or tea, if that's your thing) because perfection is a total myth!
Winston Churchill said: "Perfection is the enemy of progress." He’s right!
In our latest episode we breakdown how perfection is a trap and how to get out of it. We give you a good shake and remind you that chasing perfection is like trying to catch a unicorn—it's just gonna mess with your head, stump your growth, and maybe even wreck your relationships too. Yep - it can cut that deep and maybe it already is.
Let's be real: perfectionism isn't just about making things flawless. It's about setting these crazy-high, unattainable expectations that leave you feeling empty and like a total flop.
Julia Cameron nailed it when she said,
"Perfectionism is not a quest for the best. It is a pursuit of the worst in ourselves."
This mindset can turn into a never-ending cycle of dissatisfaction, low self-esteem, burnout and keeps feeding the “I am not enough” narrative.
So why do we keep doing this to ourselves?
Blame it on our upbringing and the pressures of society.
Many of us grew up getting pats on the back for our achievements, so we started thinking our worth was tied to external validation and what we accomplished. And still today we are, forever chasing that gold star 🌟.
The kicker: perfection doesn't exist. It's just a figment of our overactive ego.
What's the alternative game plan?
Embrace what it is to be human - we are imperfect beings! Embrace all your imperfections and instead aim for excellence. this is the game of growth and satisfaction.
Excellence is doable, is expansive and leaves room for growth and learning.
‘Failure’ is part of life. Failure is your stepping stone to success. The question is - are you willing to learn from your failed attempts?
Will wisely puts it, "If you're gonna fall on your face, you might as well get a bloody nose." Show the world that you are human because that all we can be!
